Quarts beyond five, diesel engines, and European engines that require a specific manufacturer approval are priced separately — the extra cost may be substantial. We tell you before we start, never after. Some engines must have full synthetic; if yours is one we will say so rather than put the wrong oil in it.

You get a written estimate and you authorize it before any work is done. If the job changes, you get a revised figure to approve.

Bumper repair

A bumper cover is plastic, and plastic can usually be repaired. Replacing one that could have been repaired is the most common unnecessary line on a body estimate.

Repair where the cover is sound

Scuffs, scrapes and many cracks are repairable, refinished and blended so the panel matches. It is faster and it costs less than a new cover and a paint job.

Replace where it is not

Shattered cover, broken mounting tabs, or damage through a sensor housing — then it is a replacement, and we show you why rather than asserting it.

Sensors and cameras

Parking sensors, radar and cameras live behind modern bumpers. Anything disturbed gets checked, and if it needs a calibration we say so up front.

Repaired where it is sound

Scuffs, cracks and broken tabs are repaired where the part is sound and replaced only where it is not. A bumper cover that can be repaired properly costs less than one that is replaced because replacing was quicker to quote.

Thao Auto Repair is on El Cajon Blvd in North Park, San Diego, and has been family run for over forty years — started by Le’s father and run by Le ever since. Most of the cars that come through are from the neighborhoods around the shop: North Park, University Heights, Normal Heights, South Park, Hillcrest and City Heights. All makes, domestic, Asian and European. Repair, auto body and a full machine shop are on the one site, which is why a job needing two of the three never leaves the building.
